Figuring Out What to Do with Your Life
The World Is Crying Out - God
Is Calling - What Do You Hear?
If you want to hear God's call for your life ask yourself these
three questions:
1.
What pain, hardships, or heartaches in the world move me to want
to do something?
| Unreached Peoples |
Child Abuse |
Street Children |
Discrimination |
| Slum Dwellers |
Depression |
Teenage Pregnancy |
Addiction |
| Illiteracy |
Persecution |
Refugees |
Famine, Etc. |
2.
What am I gifted in?
- Areas in which I excel (language
acquisition, listening, building, etc.)
- Activities that I enjoy the best
- Hobbies & interests
- Things that get me talking
- Accomplishments
3.
What has God done for me?
- Hurts He's healed
- Wisdom learned worth telling
- Victories He's given
- What I love about God
Carefully reflect on these three areas and you will see the unique
person God has designed you to be. There are a thousand things you
could do, but search to find those specific things through which
you can best transform your part of the world, gain an incredible
sense of purpose and make God extremely happy.

To
further bring God's call and your career together, add this:
1. Research
- Find out everything you can about the areas of needs you'd like
to help.
- Ask questions that match your interests like, "Why do certain
countries have so many babies dying?" "Why is abuse so prevalent
in homes today?" "Where are the people who've never heard about
Jesus?" "What countries have the worst human rights records?"
- Learn how people are using various careers to meet such needs.
- Watch magazines and newspapers for stories of people using skills
similar to yours to make a difference. Contact those people to
learn more.
2. Get Experience
- It makes sense to spend your tuition on something you're going
to love to do. So try out your interests first!
- Choose summer jobs wisely to get experience that matches your
interests.
- Take a year off from school to volunteer or work in various
fields.
3. Talk to the Experts (Those
Who Know You)
Find a friend, parent or teacher with which to frequently discuss
your thoughts and dreams regarding your calling, work and life.
4. Ask God
- Invite Him to daily give you a heart that loves to serve Him
and help people.
- Keep a journal in which you write down notes from exploring
your calling in life.
- Read the Bible with the expectation that God will speak to you.
5. Dream Big
Repeatedly ask yourself, "If I could do anything, what would I
do?" Then through God's strength, throw yourself into it and do
it no matter the cost!
